Interviews
The Earth Interview concludes my interviews on human elemental personalities. In asking the same questions of Water, Fire, and Air people, we've noticed that the way they approach life as much as how they speak is influenced by their respective element. Earth personalities are no different. I interviewed two earth people, a man and a woman. One answered the questions with small print and abbreviations and took his time responding, while the other required further questioning in order to inspire an answer and would sometimes go off on a completely different tangent. (The extra questions are added in [brackets]. Sometimes some questions were not answered at all, and other times editing needed to occur. Both seemed to avoid haste with their responses. While Water, Fire, and Air people talk about how nature refreshes and revives them, it is almost as if the Earth people actually feel connected, as if they recognize the intricate weaving of the patterns of their life with Earth or nature. As we have seen how the elements influence to varying degrees people's personalities, either as a full complement or a gentle helping, as well as how they affect beliefs, attitudes, and value systems, we will also notice in this interview the balance or imbalance of those core thoughts. One final note before I share the Earth interview with you is the special notation of certain questions. I asked each elemental person their choice of certain phrases or words and asked what they most gravitated toward. I asked these because each word is usually influenced by a certain element or in one particular case a chakra. I was curious to see how they each matched their element and even if that would reflect a certain chakra. Question twenty reveals the chakra phrases as follows: (7th Base) I am; (6th Sacral) I feel; (5th Solar Plexus) I do; (4th Heart) I love; (3rd Throat) I speak; (2nd Brow) I see; (1st Crown) I understand. In some cases a person included their own phrase. This inspires further investigation. Could they be responding from more than one chakra, a combination of chakras, a different chakra than the seven major vortices of the meridian system, or are they tapping into a certain dimensional level within a certain chakra? Or could the chakras have no relation whatsoever to the elemental influences within personalities? The final elemental word associations asked in questions twenty-seven through thirty are these: Air – Spiritual Science, Playful, Spontaneous, Excitement; Water – Philosophy, Creative, Intuitive, Knowledge; Fire – Science, Energetic, Strong, Success; Earth – Tradition, Stable, Compassionate, Practicality. 1.What element do you most closely associate? A: -earth - A: Earth 2. How did you discover what element you are? A: -i think i read about it in time life books on the occult - A: When I was a child, we lived in rural areas...So I would wander among the trees and play in the creeks. The Nature Spirits became my playmates. I could spend hours exploring the creeks, the hills, forests. I never got lost, never was afraid. I loved the trees, the wind, the water, the small animals and fascinated by the insects and the little bugs and worms I would dig up. I chased grasshoppers, fireflies and scooped up tadpoles. Nature was exciting to explore. When I was sad or confused, the Nature Spirits would present something to distract me or make me laugh...Nature Spirits are my family. 3. How does your element help you with others? your job? life in general? A: -i tend to be well grounded and very common sense driven, very no nonsense kinda person - A: Nature...loves me, nurtures and counsels me. Nature Spirits are my companions. 4. What do you feel personally are the pros and cons of your element? And do you find it has more of a positive or negative influence? A: - pros; would be grounded and stable, to-the-point kinda attitude, common sense about things and mechanical in nature; cons ; workaholic find it very hard to find things to laugh about ( shallow sense of humor ) A: [Pros] Nature always came to me during difficult periods in my life. As a teen, there was a small patch of trees with boulders and a tiny stream. I would slip away there until Dad would come home. The last seven years of my marriage was the most painful, difficult time of my entire life experienced. Nature Spirits kept me from slipping into insanity. When my youngest child got on the kindergarten bus, I would climb the mountain behind our house to a place where large granite boulders spread out like a table. As I climbed, I could feel the tremendous emotional burden begin to slip down from my shoulders. Sitting there, I could see over the treetops to a mountain over twenty miles away. On that boulder, I poured out my distress. I would cry for hours until I fell into an exhausted sleep on the warm boulder bathed in the sunshine of Father Sun. The trees were at my back and while there were stories of mountain cats, wild dogs and goats roaming through the woods, I never felt threatened or in danger. I did feel the presence of loving Spirits. When I would hear the school bus coming down the gravel road, I would make my way down to the house, ready to receive my precious children. As I moved ever closer to the house, I could feel the weight settle back on my shoulders but somehow it was more manageable. 5. How does your element influence how you view others? A: i have very little patience towards ppl [people] that act w/o common sense ( i have to work at remaining calm to help them with something i find very simple ) A: Earth Spirits are always around us, loving, guiding, inspiring. The tree Spirits love us, the bird and animal Spirits love us, the flowers, plants, insects, etc. etc…..they send us Love each time they enter our space. Trouble is, we ignore the gift, blind to its existence, perhaps annoyed with the “intrusion”. When our bodies and our lives slow down enough that we ask ourselves “Why are we here?”, we begin to pay attention and listen to the messages in the silence. [Would you say people are less grounded?] The minds of others are still learning. They are less grounded, yes but their moment of discovery will come in good time. [Would you say people are less connected with their environment?] Those whose minds are dreaming the great adventure, are definitely oblivious to their environment. Why else is the natural instinct to the sight of a fly prompts one to kill it? Why do men kill birds just for “sport”? Why do we allow corporations to pour poisons into our water, our land and our air that kills all living beings, including humans, all for the sake of making big bucks? Yes, I definitely say they are out of touch with their environment. [Do you think people seem to not be down-to-earth or have common sense?] I have not observed it in my life, but then I was born during WW2, and a great mental change descended on the world with its ending. People left the farming to impersonal profit hungry corporations and went to factories to find their own “American Dream”. When people left the land, they left the communications they had with the Nature Spirits. They traded common sense, a sense of caring and love for others, kindness, patience, sharing….to exchange for greediness, false pride and inflated ego that comes with “civilization”. No, not “down-to-earth”, more “up-in-the-air”. [Do you find that you tend to see others as simple-minded or too complicated?] Not simple-minded, just young minded. Their mental powers have not fully developed yet. Sometimes people appear to be too complicated by their belief systems concerning attachments and obsessions. But that will change when they are ready. [Do you see any ways in which man is good at connecting to earth and nature?] One of the best examples I can see of man connecting to earth is the Federal Parks system. A few men had the wisdom and love to influence the setting aside of vast land reserves protecting the wilderness and the lives there that call it home. It is our most precious treasure... [thisis] a place where [we] can go to connect with Nature Spirits. If they had not championed this idea, the United States would end up like Ireland. Anciently, Ireland was covered from coast to coast with a vast dense forest of Oak trees. Today the only Oak trees are the young ones planted by a program seeking to restore trees to the island. I shudder to think of America’s mental state today if we had lost all our old growth forests! 6. Briefly explain what it is like to be your element. A: business minded, always looking at how things work and how to fix them, -problem solving and being self reliant and having ppl [people] always ask why i dont smile more or why dont i laugh ( i just dont find many things funny -so kinda reserved) A: [How does it connect you to both your spirituality and the human society?]At my core, I am a vibration of the Love energy. Nature Spirits are vibrations of the Love energy...[With the human society] We live in a mental concept of separation, division. So it is with difficulty to conceive of a world where All is One. But I believe that...All was and is One... ….all life forms, plants, animals, birds, fish, insects and humans have a Spirit Particle at their core of existence. 7. How does it feel mentally/emotionally, when you can be connected to your element? A: not sure about this one but i do find myself most at ease when i am either out in the woods or in a workshop or in combat - then i tend to have a heighten sense of myself and my surroundings - to the point of precognition A: [Would you say being out in nature and connecting with earth helps you find and keep your equilibrium? Eases your fears? Dawn revelations? Experience compassion for man? Motivate you in any way?] All of the above. Yes, absolutely. Nature Spirits are always whispering words of Love and inspiration to us, even when we are unaware of their presence. But when one can open their heart and let the Love flow AND quiet the mind, then visions happen….understandings are revealed….miracles appear. I now see synchronicity working in my life on a daily basis. Every aspect of my day is perfection in process. I see patterns forming; I hear the voice of intuition more clearly each time I notice and react to the guidance. It’s a continual reminder that I’m not alone...While I don’t go outside to be in Nature as often as I would like, I am in constant communication with Spirit as I move through my day. Going into a wild forest to meditate is such a treat! 8. What resources do you use to connect with your element? A: stones/meditations A: I am attracted to trees because they are amazing plants…and my Elders. When I can sit leaning against a tree and open my heart and still my mind, I receive mental pictures that answer some question I had. They are so wise and so patient. Rocks have been my companions at critical times in my life. Once, the children and I traveled to Memphis, Tn. for a basketball weekend. We were allowed to stay at a house on a rice farm. In the morning, I took a short walk before the activities to pour out my emotional pain to the spirits. While returning to the house, resolved to carry on, I found a chocolate brown rock that fit perfectly in the palm of my hand. For years, I clutched that rock as I slept, never losing my grip. I long to live in a private place where I could walk out among the trees, lay down by a creek or look out over tree tops to see the trees dancing in the wind. I love to dance too in the wind and the rain, walking barefoot in the mud, feeling the mud squish between my toes. I love to sit in the dark and listen to the night music of the insects. 9. What happens when you are not able to receive an adequate supply of your element? (emotionally, mentally, behaviorally, etc.) A: i tend to feel out of place and out of sorts uneasy aggressive or move into state of hibernation/self preservation A: I live in a small box of an apartment and slowly smother to death a little each day. I am unable to visit Nature privately in natural, wild environments. 10. What element do you find to be the most uncomfortable? A: male-fire and female- water A: Ocean Spirit was a powerful influence but I grew frightened of her intense power and ability to come onto the land and sweep all away. Nature Spirits demand and deserve respect. Once I was guilty of mocking Storm Spirit and was sternly taught to be respectful. 11. When you engage others of your opposite element how do you tend to react? What do you do to remain in their presence? A: reserved/withdrawn/ dismiss them and there opinions give them no weight on the topic A: [What is the sort of person you find most intimidating or uncomfortable to be around? Someone who seems to see right through you? Someone who seems to be restless, fidgety, and loud? Someone who seems to be so carefree nothing seems to bother them? When you are faced with someone that makes you feel like your personalities clash what do you do? Leave the room, root yourself to your spot and mindset, other?] I’m extremely uncomfortable when in the presence of someone that is deceiving or attempting to manipulate another. Careless words, gossip, name calling, belittling another, laughter at someone’s expense, racist, foul language, violence (verbal or physical)...Someone who seems to be restless, fidgety, and loud? Sounds like some of my associates! J This requires patience, compassion, forgiveness and understanding...It’s not the clashing of personalities but Egos. It was only a couple of years ago that I FINALLY got the point . People in our lives that push our buttons and we react without thinking are just mirroring ourselves. Spirit has brought that person to our space to show us something about ourselves... 12. What is it like to engage others of your same personality element? A: -we tend to enjoy the banter and have similar beliefs A: [When you find someone else who loves nature as much as you, crystals, trees, hears nature spirits, how does that make you feel? Or maybe someone who just happens to be a tree hugger or an environmentalist. Do you grow excited, feel as if you met a kindred spirit? Do you feel at ease? Smell the scent of a flower on the air? Do you find you tend to talk a lot around them, feel casual, smiling a lot, etc.?] I have yet to meet another soul that loves Nature in the manner I do. I have met crystal lovers but they seem to be interested only in acquiring collections. Hears Nature Spirits? Have gifts from Spirits? I have met those who use their connection with spirits as a means of commercializing it. I have also met one or two individuals who claim to meditate and hear their inner voice. The truth of this claim is evidenced by their words and deeds. I have read accounts of tree huggers and Nature lovers that organize and take a stand against the bulldozers intent on destroying forests. A few people brag about their recycling efforts (ego )....When I observe others who have learned to respect Life and this planet, it brings a smile to my face... 13. What do you do to indulge in your element? What extracurricular activities, places, objects do you engage in that support your element? A: i play a lot of mind puzzles and full speed full contact medieval swordplay /mock battles A: I surround myself with reminders of [nature's] presence. My walls are covered with pictures of mountains of trees and sunsets...I have artificial flowers to remind me of plants and I sleep with a huge Quartz Crystal under my pillow each night. 14. What advice would you give others of your element? A: patience and you need to just sit and breath for a while A: [For those just discovering they are earth element, is there anything you've noticed any techniques or types of places that work for you? Any advice on how to use your element to be around others? That it is important that everyone finds their special spot and frequent there to maintain equilibrium?] ...We need to look at the choices we make concerning the needs of the body to sustain Life. Do we choose animal products that bring fear and violence to the animal? Do we suck in poisoned air deliberately? When we feel hunger, is it physical hunger or mental hunger? Physical hunger feels differently than mental hunger... I would suggest turning off the noisemakers, the television, the music systems, the phone and put a “Do Not Disturb” sign on your door. Sit quietly in a comfortable chair and listen to the silence... It’s amazing how much noise is going on without our awareness. There is the ticking clock, the hum of the refrigerator, the sound of a passing car.... I would tell a serious seeker of Life to go into the woods where one can sit against a tree, or lie on the ground by a singing stream, in privacy away from prying eyes and judging minds. A public park is no better than ones own living room. The best place is a wilderness area where man has not “improved” the land. Just explore a bit until you feel the invitation to sit awhile. Listen to the life sounds around you. Focus on Now. When you leave, don’t judge the experience. Your mind may declare nothing happened but you will feel something. The Nature Spirits do their thing of removing the energetic toxins in your energy field. They replace it with Love that brings clarity. Go into Nature, expecting nothing. One will “soak up” exactly what is needed... 15. What is the one thing you would want others to understand about what it is like to be your element and how we can support you? A: most times the only way to help is to stay out of the way and just let me do it - it will save time and energy in the long run - instead of having to take even more of both to stop and explain it to them first on how i would like it done. i tend to pace when mentally working things out - need movement to promote clear thinking on complex problems if i sit still i switch into power saver mode(sleep) A: Find your inner voice and listen to it. We are of the same body...We are all One and the same. 16. What technique(s) do you use to channel your element? A: anger- tends to focus me and my mind and gets me motivated into action /physical actions tend to also help me with being a driven force and fresh air is always better A: Doing is not as important as Being. [Do you tend to wear rocks with you wherever you go?] Not anymore. [Do you always touch the trees and plants as you walk by them?] Sometimes but I always notice them and greet them. [Do you find you wear more clothes, something that gives you gravity?] Never. The less clothes, the better it is. My goal is to someday to walk in an ancient forest skyclad [Do you find you like receiving knowledge more from something tangible such as books and scrying rather than through a person speaking and meditating?] There was time on my journey that I relied heavily on books and scrying to inspire and guide me. Kind of like going to school. But there comes a time when one leaves the tools behind and seek the wisdom within. [Do you garden?] One of my greatest joys in the past was getting my hands into the earth, planting flowers and vegetables. Another joy was crafting. Today, neither activity is available. But that is perfect because it gives me the opportunity to listen to the silence... 17. Do you have other terms for this elmental association? What are they? A: when driving -i fold time/space -the term i need my iron man suit or the juggernuaght time A: I am spiritually oriented. 18. What is your favorite thing about being your element? Your most challenging? A: clear thinking /machinery -rapid visualization; most challenging is being surrounded by ppl [people] that just dont think like me and they find everything so hard to understand - A: [Would you say that your favorite thing is how nature/earth eases and comforts you and the most challenging is how oblivious man is to abusing it?] I find it a great joy that I am never alone, am always deeply loved ...It is challenging to see man abusing himself, others and the earth, including all lifeforms on it... 19. What habits do you associate with your element? e.g., how do you compensate, what ticks do you have, routines, thought patterns, etc. A: -plan ahead /contingency thinking, rapid visual /over building stuff to never break -rapid assessment of situations -trouble shooters/problem solver A: [Are your hobbies more tangible oriented? Do you tend to gravitate toward grains and starches in your diet? Do you prefer to sleep in a firm bed because it reminds you of sleeping on a boulder?] I love reading a good book that will teach me something. I love to watch movies, watching how people deal with situations. ...I am presently working to become a vegetarian. I want to avoid products that some lifeform had to die for. [Do you walk around barefoot, wear sandals, or flat shoes as to feel the ground beneath you?] All the time when I’m home. When I was a child, I went barefoot inside and out. Rain, mud, snow, rocky, sandy, whatever, I love the feel of the earth on my feet. [Are you a crafty person?] It’s a part of my nature. [Do you always keep the windows open?] Always, even in freezing weather. 20. From the following choices which statement most resembles the way you approach life (or is there another phrase and what would that be): I am; I feel; I do; I love; I speak; I see; I understand; other? A: - i believe/i expect- ( i will it into being the way i perceive it to be /want it to be ) A: 21. Do others call you by any nicknames that just happen to be in association with your element? What are they? A: (army)shadow wolf/ace -hard to find in the woods /cant be beat in the woods (family/friends) beast/beast of burden- pack rick - knows no weight limits no job to big (social) lucius- meaning luke/ the light - as in the way A: Magpie. 22. When you find you are emotionally out of control with your element what do you you do to reign it in and find your balance again? mentally out of control? What outlets do you find help you the best? A: music /solitude -long walks in the woods A: when I become overwhelmed...I turn on [a certain song] that immediately transports me back to...roam[ing] the woods in search of the elusive Leprechaun. 23. How has being your element affect your relationships with others? with your significant someone? A: i tend to lend a grounding state to my s.o. [significant other] so she can attain her goals - ppl tend to come to me for solutions to problems A: 24. Within your element do you find you tend to gravitate to a certain type of that element? e.g., water people - fresh vs. salty water, oceans vs. lakes, showers vs. baths, misters vs. rainstorms or soak it all in. A: i go towards woods/mtns -places of seclusion -wood furniture wood drums -stone buildings (castles) some metal furnishings (wrought iron) A: [Do you gravitate toward a certain type of your earth element? You like trees and rocks, so are forests and meadows your gig or do you also like parks, or are they too confining? Are you at ease with just a garden or a flower box? Or are they all good and restful?] I deeply long to live in Nature. But since Spirit knows I don’t need to physically be there, I am provided with all I need. My walls are covered with landscapes of forested mountain tops and sunrises. I go into my mind and relive the feel of the wind in my hair and around my body. Statues of Ravens remind me of the mystery in life and the joy of flying. Artificial plants remind me of the tulip garden I once had….and of the wild rose bush I found in the woods. Its scent was more lovely than all the nursery raised long stemmed roses put together. The scent of Peonies and Lilacs are intoxicating. I have wonderful memories that I can relive and experience in my mind. Parks are too manicured and filled with negative vibrations. Trees were murdered to open up space. Workers with negative minds and attitudes leave their imprint on the environment. Humans that take for granted what is around them and disrespect others and the earth also leave their imprint. An ancient forest is the best but woods that see few visitors is second best. 25. If you remember your dreams how does your element appear visually, symbolically, emotionally? Describe. A: i tend to dream in vivid colors and hyper real A: 26. How does your element enhance your senses and your body? Do you find some things to be more acute, while other things you are more immune? Explain. A: i am wolf like - i hear very well i have a great nose - and i move very well in the dark and very silent - and i dont get sick very often - very hearty/strong A: ...The sound of a chainsaw knots my stomach because that means a tree will be killed or maimed. I hear cries of pain when live trees are attacked. The most horrible time was a few months ago when I awoke to the groaning of a wood chipper located just a few feet from my front door. The screams of the trees and the monster were horrendous. I was literally sick to my stomach. I fled to [name's] apartment where the sound was muffled and conversation distracted my attention. To drive along and suddenly see a once tree-filled field with all the trees now lying on the ground, literally knocks the breath out of me. Genocide! 27. Out of these four words which best describes your orientation: science, philosophy, spiritual science, tradition A: -yes-balanced i need them all to exist A: I’m definitely not tradition or science (it’s too limited); unclear what is meant by “spiritual science”….but I do have a philosophy that is unique to myself. 28. Choose which word best describes you from the following: Stable, Playful, Creative, Energetic A: -stable /enigmatic A: Creative is the word….I have a vibrant, rich imagination. 29. Choose which word best describes you from this following list: Intuitive, Spontaneous, Strong, Compassionate A: -strong A: I am all those words but to choose one….intuitive. 30. And which word are you most drawn to in this set: Knowledge, Success, Excitement, Practicality A: -knowledge/practicality-equally A: Knowledge is worthless without understanding the truth of the matter. So I guess excitement is the word I identify with. I love gaining new knowledge but understanding how and why that knowledge is as it is….that is where the excitement lies. 31. If there is anything else you would like to include or would like to ask others of your element or of other elements, please feel free to do so here. A: -anything you have i could always use since i might not have heard it all or need a refresher course in it at some point in the future :) [I'm] always questing for further knowledge A:
